Responsibilities & Services
The county clerk’s office has been in existence in Texas since 1836 as set out in Section 20, Article 5 of the Texas Constitution.

The county clerk's duties, prerequisites and fees of office shall be prescribed by legislation. The county clerk's office is the record keeper of the county, which include:
  • Birth certificates
  • Brand registrations
  • DD214s (military discharges)
  • Death certificates
  • Marriage licenses
  • Probate and civil filings
  • Real estate property records

Our deed records for Brazos County began in 1841. The County Clerk's Office is also responsible for holding the federal, state and county elections.
